We are very fortunate that one of our playgroup mommies was an active & accomplished Girl Scout. Even when our girls were just toddlers, she told us that it was her plan to start and lead a troop for our girls. Now that the girls are school-aged, she started a Daisy troop for them at her daughter's school. All of Kyrie's best friends are in the Daisy troop, plus a few more who have joined. The troop formed in October, and we have had 3 meetings so far. There were about 8 girls to start and now there are 11.
Kyrie's first task as a Girl Scout was to learn the Girl Scout Promise:
On my honor, I will try
To serve God and my country
To help people at all times
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
We talked about promises and about what it meant to belong to an organization, and we went through the Girl Scout Law. I said the Promise to Kyrie several times over the next couple weeks and we broke down each part. Soon, she had it down and was chanting it like a mantra. She loves to recite it when prompted and can even say it backwards (by line, not by word). We have heard the Promise so much that even little Degen can be heard saying (very seriously), "On my hona, I will twy to serve God and country and lif by a Girl Scou[t] Law." (It is pretty stinkin' cute!)
Because she learned her Girl Scout Promise, Kyrie earned her Daisy pin and the "promise center" of her Daisy badge. She was over-the-top excited after I put the patches on her vest. All she wanted to do was wear her Daisy vest, but I told her that she had to wait until meeting day and then she could wear it all day. Our next meeting day was a busy one and Kyrie wore her vest all day long. Many people commented on her vest and asked her about Girl Scouts. She was very happy for the attention and often recited the Promise for them to hear. It was very sweet!
We are excited for Kyrie to start her Girl Scout journey and trust that it will be a fun & positive experience for her and all her friends!
