November 11th was St. Martin's Day, and we joined the Ohio German Language School for a traditional procession through a nearby park. St. Martin was a poor, German soldier who shared his cloak with a beggar on a cold, winter's night. His feast day is celebrated in Germany with late-night, lighted parades. Many of the OGLS students made lanterns at home or at school to carry during the procession. We learned the story of St. Martin and sang German songs celebrating him. Afterward we shared hot drinks (it was a cold evening) and snacks, many traditional to the German celebration. Kyrie had a wonderful time!
