Neewollah 2011: Grand Parade

The Neewollah Grand Parade is always a special occasion! Before the parade starts we catch up with family & friends.
Kyrie with Uncle Danny who spoils her with cotton candy!

Degen with Great-Grandma Cain! He greeted her with a "Hello! Nice to meet you!"

Degen & Richard

Degen gives Great Aunt Linda a hug!

Darren & Degen with Grandma Ida

The parade begins with a fly over and a color guard. Excitement mounts as we hear the bands and  procession of emergency vehicles approaching. Kyrie isn't a fan of the loud whoops & sirens coming from the emergency vehicles, but Degen loved the big fire engines and the high school marching bands. There are also classic cars, clowns, Shriner mini-cars and floats of every kind carrying Neelah pageant winners & participants, employees of local businesses, church groups & clubs. My favorite float this year was for a polynesian dance school. We shout our appreciation to local military, law enforcement and fire departments and cheer on the high school bands who will participate in the band competition that afternoon. We wave and stretch out our hands for candy, trinkets and beaded necklaces. This is hometown America at its best: streets lined with the sun-drenched smiles of neighbors and filled with the boisterous pride of our communities on parade.

Our good friends, the Kings! Jeff King is a Kansas State Senator, and we always enjoying seeing his family in the parade!

Degen did a post-parade happy dance!
