Tickling the Ivories

Last Monday, Kyrie had her first piano lesson. She is enrolled in a preschool sampler class through The Conservatory of Piano in Worthington. There were 8 other children in her class, which is led by the enthusiastic Miss Popper!
Kyrie was unsure about taking piano lessons (specifically because her friends were not going to be there), but when all the parents were invited back into the classroom at the end of the class she was all smiles (as were all the other boys & girls). They had folders decorated with stickers and full of worksheets that they had completed. On the way home, Kyrie excitedly told me about all the things she had learned and told me that she was going to play the songs she learned when we got home.
I loved how serious Kyrie was setting up and 'reading' her music. She performed two songs: Three Blind Mice & Humpty Dumpty. And then prepared a song of her own, Mary Had a Little Lamb. Her performance consisted entirely of her placing her fingers on the black keys (that she had been taught to find in class) and playing them to the rhythm of the nursery rhymes. It was very cute! She has practiced and performed several times in the last week and inquired almost daily when she would return for her next piano lesson. We are thrilled with her enthusiasm and hopes that it continues!
