Baby, You're a Firework

We enjoyed a pleasant and mostly relaxing July 4th weekend. It started with our first Red, White & Boom experience. Half of Columbus (or more) heads downtown for the giant fireworks display. We were happy to join friends for a picnic dinner & good conversation while the kids ran around playing and making friends.

Though I am always disappointed by the fireworks selection available in Columbus, which consists entirely of smoke bombs, poppers and sparklers, I still buy up a pack for the kiddos because it just isn't July 4th without some kind of fireworks. And truthfully, it's just about right for our noise- and fire-shy kids.

The kids threw poppers and Darren lit the smoke bombs. The kids loved running through the colored smoke. Feeling more adventurous, the kids took their turns running around with smoke candles. Afterward we blew bubbles and decorated the driveway with patriotic art!

After an all-American dinner of barbecue ribs, corn-on-the-cob and potato salad, we went over to some friends to watch the Worthington fireworks! There was a men vs. kids soccer game, popsicles and sparklers. (Sparklers this year were way stressful as I was terrified that Degen would try to grab one and burn himself.) We had great seats to the fireworks display, and I was proud of Kyrie who didn't even whimper at the loud booms. It was a great end to the holiday weekend!
