We knew that we had to make it to the beach during our trip. The last time we had been to the beach, Degen was still a baby, so he was extra-excited for the experience. So, we drove out to Santa Monica to see the beach. Unfortunately, the day turned overcast and we were completely unprepared without towels or sand toys. Still, I had brought our flip-flops and a change of clothes for the beach, and we were prepared to make the best of it. And our darling kiddos certainly did that! Though it was cloudy and quite cool, the kids played at the ocean's edge and in the sand for more than 2 hours. They absolutely loved it! We found a broken shovel and a small bucket, and Degen spent much of his time building small castles, decorating them with bits of shell or seaweed. Kyrie jumped a thousand waves and played at running in and out of the surf. Darren & I opted to stay warm in our hoodies higher up the beach and watch them play. Though not the perfect beach day we might have had in mind, it ended up being a great day at the beach!
