This is the first unit in our series on creativity. During this unit, the kids choose their favorite books to read, and we learn about some of our favorite authors and their writing processes. We also discuss the arts, spotlighting a few notable artists. The kids love to read/be read to, so this is a great unit for them.
For Degen, this unit has a big focus on Dr. Seuss. As with all our units, he is working on the alphabet, phonics and sight word skills along with a variety of math skills. This unit, we also talked about fiction vs. non-fiction and practiced some rhyming, which he really enjoys.

During this unit, Kyrie did some more in-depth study about Dr. Seuss for her writing project: a biography. Learning about different authors and how they write was beneficial for Kyrie who is responsible for completing a writing project for each unit. During this unit, she also completed a country study about Mexico. We are working to finish up our units in time for summer break. Over the summer, both kids will keep practicing basic skills and Kyrie will complete several book studies.
She thought this was a funny joke. |
