Here's the painted kitchen AND our very first cabinet! Our contractor wanted us to have at least one cabinet, so he set one at the end of the work day so that we could see what it looked like. It would soon be followed by almost all of the rest of the cabinets. As much as this is such an exciting time as our vision starts to come together, I feel like this has been a very frustrating & anxiety-filled week. You worry about measurements and layout and if the decisions you made months ago were really the right decisions. As cabinets are unwrapped, ordering mistakes reveal themselves that must be remedied and suddenly decisions that felt so far away must be completed within an ever-dwindling amount of time. Though we are happy with the results, this was the first week that I feel like we got really stressed about the kitchen. Darren, who has made nearly every single decision during this months long process, might disagree with me on that point!

The above photo really shows you how we have tranformed the kitchen & kitchenette into one space. Really, we increased the size of our kitchen by at least 50% much of which includes cabinet & countertop space. The glass-front cupboards in the kitchenette should be reeded glass, and there was a bit of a mix-up (or a few oopsies) regarding the crown molding for the cabinets, but I am very happy with how everything looks. And the credit for how great this looks really does go to Darren who worked so hard in the decision-making process. (Note: In general, I do not enjoy making decisions, so though Darren repeatedly asked for input on preferences & opinions, I did leave most of the final decisions up to him. And he rocked it!)
We still have a few decisions left to make about sinks & faucets and pulls, but we are pretty much nearing the end of this project. The cabinets will be measured on Monday so that the granite can be cut and then we have to wait a few weeks for that to be finished up. The carpenters will return on Friday to finish setting the cabinets, and we need to get the backsplash finalized and ordered. It feels good to be so close to finished, but it seems right about this point that our patience & energy is running low. By July, we should be enjoying our new kitchen!
