On Friday, Darren surprised me with a peach from one of our backyard trees! We have had the trees for less than a year, and he has been picking off any fruit because they are still so small (and not supposed to be fruit-producing for another few years). As an experiment, he let one peach continue to grow & ripen. This little peach was absolutely the best peach ever! Once again I was reminded that you simply cannot buy fresh in the grocery store. Though we have lost 3 trees and will probably lose one more before the summer is through, I am getting very excited for the days when our backyard trees are full of ripe fruit!
