We've Been Workin' on the Railroad

Both our kids love trains! We have a fairly sizable collection of Thomas tracks & trains (thanks to Darren & Ebay), and the kids love when Darren puts together a track that winds across the playroom floor. Recently, Degen's train enthusiasm has started to show small signs of a growing obsession. He is mesmerized by the sight & sounds of them passing on the tracks near the community center. He cries & cries when our short ride on the zoo train is over. He applies an unrelenting grip on any Thomas item that comes acoss his path. In short,  he is almost instantly attracted to anything having to do with trains! When I heard that a model train show would be in Columbus this past weekend, I knew that we had to go.
I was a little worried when we first entered the convention hall because, it mostly seemed like a lot of vendors hocking model train wares. But there really was a lot for the kids to do & see, including: 3 large play areas filled with tracks & trains, at least 20 huge model train displays, an on-the-floor display that let the kids get up close to the moving trains and the piece de resistance: a real-working Thomas that the kids could ride!
The kids had a great time! Kyrie enjoyed looking through the thick trade books and playing in the play areas. Degen was in awe of the large displays. And both kids LOVED riding on the Thomas train twice!

Degen couldn't get enough of this on-the-floor display. He sat and watched it for at least 20 minutes and then we went back later and he did the same.

My goodness, he looks like such a grown-up boy in this picture! Melts my heart!
