Homeschool: Insects

We are continuing our spring-themed "nature" units with our unit on insects. It's a great time of year to think about bugs as the kids are able to spend time outside turning over rocks and inspecting the grass for different kinds of insects. While in Phoenix, we spent time in the butterfly exhibit at the botanical gardens, and we have a field trip to the butterfly exhibit at our local conservatory planned, also. Kyrie worked on her bug badge for Brownies as a part of her unit work.

These are great non-fiction books with lots of photos and easy information.

Degen's unit folder

Degen began his second round of the alphabet this unit. I continue to reinforce handwriting, letter recognition and phonetics as we head towards reading.

Our butterfly lifecycle lunch: cottage cheese "eggs," banana "caterpillar," corn dog "chrysalis," and butterfly cake. The kids really got a kick out of this.

The kids built bugs with Trio blocks.

Kyrie built a bug box (above & below) and has spent lots of time outside collecting bugs to observe & release.
