Saturday was Kyrie's first day of Kindergarten at the Ohio German Language School. OGLS provides German language & cultural instruction to adults & children in the Columbus area. There are about 10 children in Kyrie's class, many who speak German at home with their families, lived in Germany previously or are of German descent. Her teacher is from Germany and has taught early childhood education in Columbus for the past 35 years.
Kyrie was excited about her first day, and we all went along to find her classroom, meet her teacher and introduce ourselves to the other families.
When we learned about the school, we knew that it would be the perfect opportunity for Kyrie to learn German as Darren's busy schedule makes it very difficult for him to provide her with any at-home German language instruction. The classroom is relaxed and focused on language immersion in a fun & natural environment. The other parents seem committed to the program and excited for the year ahead. There will be plenty of opportunities for us to volunteer in the classroom and participate in cultural activities.
Class starts at 9:30 and ends at noon. Kyrie was all smiles when I picked her up and told us all about how she played with new friends. She can't wait to go back next week!
