Our vacation "field trip" this year was to George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. We had a great time touring the grounds, though the day was quite hot & humid. We started with a tour of the extensive grounds, during which the children completed a puzzle about life at Mt. Vernon. There was a lot to see, and though we were disappointed that we rushed through some of it, we were grateful for lunch reservations at the delicious (& blissfully air-conditioned) Mount Vernon Inn. After lunch, we went on our mansion tour and visited the Education Center, which was very informative and well done. Our last stop was the gift shop (of course), where the kids chose some treasures to remind them of their visit.

Martha Washington... she was a hip-hip lady, man! We all really enjoyed our time listening to Mrs. Washington talk to us about her life with Mr. Washington. |
