WDW14: Disney Dining Plan

So, there are about a million different ways to do Disney, but when we go, we go all in. We love staying on-property and we love the Disney Dining Plans. There are two plans. One is a 'quick service' plan that allows each guest 2 quick-service meals and 1 snack a day. The other is the deluxe dining plan that includes 3 table- or quick-service meals and 2 snacks a day. We chose the deluxe plan.

Now, let me just say right up front that this is a LOT of food- seriously, it is more food than you want to eat (table-service meals include either the provided buffet or 3-courses), but you get a lot more options for restaurants and character dining experiences.

I hate to wait. It is just something that I am not fond of, especially when the kids are with me, and at times it seems you could rename the whole thing "Wait" Disney World, so we choose as many character dining experiences as we can so that we can sit back, relax, eat (again) and let the characters come to us rather than waiting in line to see them. If we go again when the kids are older, we might reconsider which meal plan we choose, but you just have to know what is right for your family.

I make reservations for ALL of our meals- seriously, I was on the phone for about two hours just making our dining reservations. The thing that can be a bit of a drag with doing so many reservations can be that you have to get to certain places at certain times. You have to plan your day around them, and the meals themselves take longer- some character meals took up to two hours. I am a big-time planner, so this was not really a problem for us, but for many, this is just taking time away from their park experience. However,we like to use our meals as a time for all of us to just sit down and take a break. We did not get to do every ride in the park (Degen was too short for some, so we skipped those), but we did everything we wanted and saw TONS of characters and ate A LOT of food!

If you do choose this dining plan, I would encourage you to stretch your times out. Normally, you might eat dinner at 6, but you will probably be okay eating at 7 or even later if you just had a big meal that afternoon. You also get 2 snacks each day. We ended up saving these up for a few meals we didn't have credits for and also grabbing some snacks for the trip back.

Our first day, we had a reservation for Tony's Town Square Restaurant on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. We had to pick up our PhotoPass stuff right next door, so we checked in early (we were starving as we had not really eaten anything that day while we were traveling). We had not been to Tony's before, but I thought it was great! It has a Lady & the Tramp theme and serves Italian food. The calamari was fantastic! This meal was a great start to our first evening at Magic Kingdom!

In upcoming posts, I will share our favorite pics and suggestions for restaurants.
