Walt Disney World 2014: First Stop

This is (sorta) both of the kids right as we were getting ready to leave. The excitement kinda got to Degen right before we left, and he got a little bit emotional. Of course, I still wanted to get a photo, so this is what I got. Our trip had been planned for a few months with lots of talk about the details along the way.The kids were really excited to fill up their countdown charts for the trip. They helped pick out their clothes and saved up their allowances to have some spending money. It was a lot of fun!

They did well on the plane ride, but Kyrie had some issues with her ears (she's her daddy's girl!). I am not sure she will be as excited for her next plane ride. I booked a non-stop flight, which was great for all of us and before you know it... we were in Florida.

I wanted us to use the time we had as best we could, so instead of using the Disney Magical Express, we went ahead and got a taxi. It is pricey, but we were at the hotel in 30 minutes, so for us, it was worth it.

We stayed at the Contemporary Resort. The last time we went to Disney, we were in a value resort and decided to upgrade for this trip.... and it was definitely worth it! We had a spacious room with just a touch of Disney flair.

We got our Magic Bands about a month before we left, and they were our key to the room and the entire Kingdom! Each band held our information and let us into our room, the parks, FastPass rides and allowed us to make charges to our room. Overall, they just made the trip easier- I loved them!

Okay, so Disney has some beautiful resorts and some really fun rooms, and I know lots of people who stay on Disney property have definite opinions about where you should stay. My vote for best resort has got to be for the Contemporary. Though perhaps not the most beautiful of buildings or the most fun of rooms, you simply cannot beat being on the monorail line AND a mere 10 minute WALK from the Magic Kingdom. Our first night, the crowd to the monorail seemed a bit daunting, but the walk back to our hotel was easy and a pleasant wind-down to the evening. It also made leaving the park for a few hours in the afternoon a reasonable idea, knowing that it wouldn't take us 30+ minutes each way to leave and then go back. You have to pay to stay, but going during the off-peak season made the rates more reasonable for us.

We had a lovely, little balcony overlooking Bay Lake. The resort had a pool and activities, but we were there for the parks and it was a bit too chilly for us to swim... though there were others willing to take the plunge.

I took several photos when I had the chance, which was mostly in the mornings before we left and at night when the kids were in bed. Here are some of my favorite views:

There was a nightly music & lights show on the lake that was fun to watch.

A full moon over the lake.

The sunrises were amazing! I am not a morning person, so they are something that I rarely get to see. On this trip there were lots of reasons to get up early, and I tried to make the most of it. (Shout out to my a-mazing husband who got up at 5:30 almost every morning to do work. Even on vacation, he was working hard!) There was often fog coming off the lake, and it made the whole scene seem heavenly. I loved this view!

My little angel!
