Shekinah Festival

The Shekinah Festival is a fundraiser for the Shekinah Christian School, which is located about 30 minutes from us. It is a wonderful festival, especially if you have small children. First, the people are very friendly. The Shekinah School is a country school and caters to a lot of Mennonite & Amish families, as well as others in the rural community. There is a country hospitality that pervades the entire event.
Our first stop every year is the animal tent where there is a petting zoo and pony rides. This year, Degen rode with me. I have to admit, it was great being back on a horse. I have really missed horseback riding. Kyrie really enjoyed the experience, too, and asked if we could get a horse for the backyard. We told her that we could compromise and let her take riding lessons when she was old enough.
I thought that these little piggies were absolutely adorable, but they were very skittish, so it was hard to pet them. The donkey was much friendlier!
Degen's favorite part of the festival was the barrel train! He cried to get on and cried when we took him out. He rode once with Kyrie and once with Mommy.
What country festival would be complete without a hay rack ride! It was a beautiful morning, though the clouds set in later in the morning. It was the perfect excuse to head to the tents and grab some barbecue chicken for lunch! (This chicken lunch is a huge draw for festival-goers and lines for tickets form early.)
A few sprinkles sent people inside to the auction tent, food tents and the bake sale. There is also a large display of handmade quilts that are auctioned. They are truly beautiful pieces of American folk art! We headed into the school for crafts. Kyrie & Degen made sand jars, and then Kyrie painted a piggy bank.
We are already looking forward to next year's festival!
