This is the second year that Kyrie has worked to earn the Girl Scout My Promise, My Faith award. The goal of this award is for a Girl Scout to examine her faith and find how it correlates with a part of the Girl Scout Law. For this year's project, Kyrie made a book called "Brave."
Kyrie chose to look at the Bible story of David & Goliath. Then we read the Girl Scout Law and she selected the section about being "courageous and strong" as being most applicable to the story.
I helped Kyrie learn about some famous women who demonstrated courage & strength during their lives. We talked about Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Clara Barton and Dolores Huerta. I found some photos and quotes. Then we read about several other women in history, and Kyrie selected to write about Amelia Earhart and Rosa Parks.
The last part of the project required Kyrie to get in touch with a woman of faith. Having just visited her NanaMAC, she chose to ask her about her faith. We read about NanaMAC's faith and talked about what it means for her to be courageous & strong.
Kyrie really enjoyed working on this project, and presented it to her Girl Scout Leader at their last meeting of the year.
